About This Spot

Stepping into Brasserie Fjällköket is like settling into a quietly confident mountain retreat where the rhythm slows and the surrounding wilderness seems to pause just outside the windows. Nestled within Abisko’s Arctic Mountain Lodge, this restaurant carries an intimate, welcoming warmth—the kind that invites you to shed the chill of Lapland’s wide-open spaces and linger a little longer over shared meals and thoughtful conversation.

The atmosphere here is unhurried yet attentive, a gentle balance between rustic charm and deliberate refinement. Soft lighting mingles with crackling fires, creating a space that feels both grounded in its rugged setting and invitingly polished. Whether you arrive after a day chasing the Northern Lights or hiking the nearby trails, the pace here encourages you to breathe deeply and savor the moment.

Dining at Fjällköket is a quiet exploration of the region’s seasonally inspired flavors, with each plate offering a glimpse into the delicate, distinctive character of Arctic ingredients. Imagine savoring tender cuts of moose or reindeer, layered with subtle sauces that honor centuries of northern tradition without feeling heavy. Vegetables and fresh fish from the surrounding fjords find their way into thoughtful preparations, balanced with surprising accents like a hint of horseradish or the tartness of cloudberries. These are not simply meals; they are moments of connection—to place, to the land, and, often, to fellow travelers at the table.

The staff’s discreet attentiveness reinforces the restaurant’s ethos—not to rush, but to enrich your visit. There’s a quiet pride in their service, a desire that your evening becomes one you’ll carry with you beyond Abisko’s borders. It’s this subtle but sincere human touch that transforms a night at Fjällköket into something quietly memorable.

For those journeying in from near or far, the experience here is as much about the atmosphere as the food—warmth found in both the crackle of the fire and the familiar comfort of good company, framed by the extraordinary landscape outside. It’s a place where the flavors of the Arctic meet a deliberately crafted calm, inviting you to discover the understated delights of the north, one thoughtfully composed dish at a time.

We were staying at STF Abisko Turiststation, but made the easy walk (40 minutes) into town to dine at the Abisko Mountain Lodge. Such a treat! Enjoyed relaxing cocktails (Paloma & Old Fashion) in the lobby by the fireplace before seating for dinner. We were immediately taken by their ambition that we should remember this meal when dining elsewhere (photo), and continued to enjoy the entire experience. Our dining experience began with fresh bread served with salted butter, and progressed to a delicious and rich beet root soup. We had the Cod and Reindeer entrees, both very satisfying. The Mountain Lodge Coffee (think Irish Coffee with a local twist) capped off our meal, and we left so pleased with this choice.

This is the best restaurant of my holidays in the North. The service was perfect. The beautiful lady was absolutely lovely. Not to much on the menu which gives already certitude about the quality of the restaurant. There was taste on the Moose plate, that red wine sauce was amazing. The crème brûlée was just what it needs to be. From A-Z a very good experience for a very reasonable price. I strongly recommend this restaurant.

We had an amazing five course Coast to Coast dinner here. Only available Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Of particular note of an appetizer consisting of lichen, horseradish and reindeer tongue that at first glance rather ood was actually quite excellent. Would recommend to anyone visiting the area and we still got out and saw the auroras afterward! Attentive staff and helped us through the non-alcoholic alternatives.

Stopped by this unassuming resteraunt on our hunt for the elusive aurora borealis and boy am I so glad we did. We got here half an hour before the kitchen closed but this wasnt a problem and we were shown to a table and welcomed with impeccable hospitality. I ordered the cod main dish that came with some asparagus and peas, a brown butter hollandaise- just wow and some lovely roast potatoes with the some nuts for crunch. I think this is one of the most memorable plates of food I have ever had. Spectacular. I followed this up with their creme brulee and again this was Spectacular. The scent of the caramelised brown sugar on top sent my taste buds swirling before I had taken even taken a bite. Their drinks were superb and the company I was in was also very fine. The aurora hunt soon took a backseat to the fine food, company and ambience set by this establishment. A must visit if youre ever in this part of the world.

There is essentially only 1 restaurant in Abisko, and is located within the Arctic Mountain Lodge (though if you have a car, you can drive a bit to find some alternatives near the Skystation or at Björkliden). Food here is fantastic. The cod fish was so tender and well cooked, and the sauce pairing was excellent. The same can be said for the reindeer. Both dishes were absolutely delicious. We devoured both dishes happily. We had Cloudberries and Brûlée for desserts. The cloudberry was a well thought out and well-presented dessert. The combination of all components eaten together was great. The coffee taste in the ice cream was, in my opinion, a bit too mild and could be stronger. The ambience and atmosphere of the restaurant and the lodging was great. It set the mood really well especially in winter. Great decorations all around too!

Brasserie Fjällköket was an absolute gem – simple yet beautifully prepared food with clear influences from the local Arctic environment. We especially appreciated the local craft beer, refined wine list, and simple yet well balanced menu for our two days visit. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, with a relaxed mountain lodge feel that made us want to linger long after dessert. The staff (Alice in particular) were friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about both the food and the local area, which really added to the experience. A perfect end to a day of adventure in Abisko – highly recommended for anyone looking for authentic northern flavors in a cozy, high-quality setting.

Food here is amazing! Every little side and sauce are well made and they fit so well with the main dish. We ordered steak and moose schnitzel like it a lot!

Why can’t we give more than 5 stars? Such a special place for the food but especially for the two wonderful people who shared their time and knowledge with us of true north Swedish food (and an alert to leave the restaurant as an aurora has just appeared)! Also, outside the restaurant too - thank you also for the coffee and the hats which we will wear with special memories! Tried Moose tartare, Reindeer stew, Cloudberries, homemade coffee ice cream, a can of local Juicy beer and the best ever sweet potato chips! We have had a lot of chips! Unforgettable.
